Sanders Smoke Technologies, Inc.
specializes in Airborne Self-Contained Smoke Generator
Systems. In 1972, Frank Sanders developed a smoke
generating system for his personal Hawker Sea Fury to
use during Airshow demonstrations. In 1973, he was
approached by NASA to develop a smoke generating system
they could use for wake vortex studies. That model was
the SCSG (Self-Contained Smoke Generator). In 1981,
Frank
developed a second model, which is the Smokewinder®.
Smokewinder® and SCSG series smoke
generating systems were developed to fill the need for a
smoke system that is independent of the engine influence
and location. These smoke generating systems have
greatly expanded the application and scope to which
smoke may be used in aircraft operation. Each smoke
generator system is built and individually tested at Sanders Smoke
Technologies and then shipped in enclosed wooden crates.
The Smokewinder® and SCSG have been designed for ease of operation, are quick
fitting, easily removed from the aircraft’s mounting
racks and are completely self-contained, producing dense
high quality smoke. Both systems have been operated to 0.8 Mach
from sea level to 15,000 feet and up to 9G's. Smokewinders have been flown inert up to Mach 2.0.
Models of the Smokewinder® and SCSG have flown for 25+
years.
